Astrea fue abandonada por su madre, viviendo en la tierra en hábito de varón, para no ser reconocida por el extraordinario parecido que tenÃa con su madre, con quien muchos la confundÃan. Eran aquellos los tiempos de la Edad Dorada en que, bajo la égida de Saturno, remaba la idÃlica fraternidad universal, en que no habÃa tuyo ni mÃo. Pero un dÃa nefasto, se cometió en la tierra el primer crimen; y Astrea horrorizada, voló al cielo, convirtiéndose en la sexta constelación del Zodiaco, Virgo, en cuya forma baja todas las tardes, al anochecer, a la tierra, montada con Faetón sobre el hipógrifo que tira del carro del sol poniente (Hiperión), que, desbocado por la impericia de su joven conductor, se precipita sobre la boca del monte Etna, en las entrañas de la tierra, para resucitar -reencarnado- convertido en Tifoeo ; fuego de la tierra.
